Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs went bust against the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks), 5-3.
Scott Barnes started for Iowa today as manager Marty Pevey went to the bullpen committee to pitch today's game. Barnes took the loss after he gave up two runs on three hits in just two innings. Barnes struck out four and walked one.
Juan Perez hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. It was his second this season. Perez was 2 for 5.
Catcher Willson Contreras was 1 for 2 with two walks and a sac fly.
Albert Almora was 1 for 4, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies usurped the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 9-4.
Tyler Skulina started and got his second win. Skulina pitched six innings and allowed just one run on two hits--the one run coming on a home run by Jake Peter in the sixth inning. Skulina struck out seven and walked four.
Corey Black got his fifth save. Black allowed one run on two hits over 1.1 innings. He walked two and did not strike anyone out.
Shortstop Carlos Penalver was a perfect 3 for 3 with a walk and two doubles. Penalver scored three and drove in two.
Right fielder Bijan Rademacher was 3 for 4 with two doubles. Rademacher scored once and drove two in.
First baseman Ryan Dent went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI. Left fielder Mark Zagunis was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs caged the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers), 2-1.
Starter Carson Sands got the win after he allowed just one run on three hits over five innings. Sands walked three and struck out three.
James Norwood got the save. Norwood pitched 1.1 scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Second baseman Andrew Ely went 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored.
