Chicago Cubs vs. Philadelphia Phillies Preview, Saturday 5/28, 1:20 CT

The Cubs look for their fourth win in a row.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

The Cubs have already had three separate winning streaks this year of four games or more, and they'll try to make that total four with a victory in this one over the Phillies.

That's about all I've got for this game, except that I really, really hope it doesn't rain again. Today's forecast calls for about a 20 percent chance of rain during the afternoon, with a bigger chance this evening.

Here are today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Fowler CF, Heyward RF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Zobrist 2B, Soler LF, Montero C, Russell SS, Hendricks P

Phillies lineup:

Herrera CF, Galvis SS, Franco 3B, Howard 1B, Rupp C, Hernandez 2B, Lough LF, Eickhoff P, Bourjos RF

Kyle Hendricks

Jerad Eickhoff

Kyle Hendricks had a good outing in his last start, allowing just one run in 5⅓ innings against the Giants. It wasn't enough to win due to Madison Bumgarner being better. Beyond that, Hendricks has had trouble once he gets into the middle innings. He has pitched in the seventh inning just three times in eight starts, and his ERA in the sixth inning or later is 9.95 (small sample, just 6⅓ innings). He'll have to do better than that.

Jerad Eickhoff is having a decent year, and threw seven shutout innings in his last start (though, since that was against the woeful Braves offense, it has to be viewed from that perspective). He also threw seven good innings against the Cubs September 12, 2015 in Philadelphia, allowing just one run and three hits. So this one is likely going to be tougher than yesterday's was.

Today's game is on ABC7 Chicago.

SB Nation game preview

Please visit our SB Nation Phillies site The Good Phight. If you do go there to interact with Phillies fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

The 2016 Game Thread procedure will be the same as the one used at the end of 2015. Here's how it works.

You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
