Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 25

Not being satisfied with his second-place position on the chart, Jake Arrieta throws seven more scoreless innings to rack up his fifth Superhero of the season in six tries.

I'm not quite sure what Anthony Rizzo's doing with his bat here...

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Jake Arrieta (.194). Just another seven-inning, two-hit, two-walk game. There was a photo of him in the gallery today that reminded me of the "Are you not entertained?!" scene from the movie Gladiator, but I couldn't get it to fit without looking like a really bad crop job.
  • Hero - Tim Federowicz (.135).  Hey, they let a new guy on the Hero podium! He had a good night, reaching base three times and doing a lot of table-setting.
  • Sidekick - Addison Russell (.088).  Took the final spot with a keen eye at the plate and a wild pitch from Jonathon Niese. Another fruit basket is on its way.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Jorge Soler (-.094). You know, maybe it's just the two-spot in the lineup that's cursed right now.
  • Goat - Javier Baez (-.053).  Another nifty night with the glove, but unfortunately the bat didn't produce.
  • Kid - Dexter Fowler (-.013).  He did get on base twice, including a single to lead off the game. The bases-loaded strikeout in the second ended up landing him on the final spot.

RANKINGS THROUGH GAME 25: Arrieta once again leapfrogs to the top of the charts, moving Rizzo back down to the second spot.
