Chicago Cubs Minor League Wrap: June 15

Wins for Iowa and Myrtle Beach today.

Larry Kave/Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Eugene Emeralds had two big announcements over the past two days. One, the Emeralds and the Cubs renewed their Player Development Contract through 2018. The other big news was that Eugene announced that all of their home games will be available on milb.tv this season! So now, all five minor league affiliates will broadcast their home games on milb.tv.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs rinsed the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers), 6-5.

Starter Rob Zastryzny got the win today after he pitched five innings and allowed three runs on three hits. He did have some major control issues as he walked five and struck out no one.

Spencer Patton pitched the ninth inning and got his seventh save. Patton allowed a one-out single, but then struck out the next two batters to close out the game.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario was a perfect 3 for 3 with a triple and a walk. Candelario scored once and had one RBI.

Right fielder Mark Zagunis was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a walk. Zagunis scored twice.

Center fielder John Andreoli was 3 for 5 with a triple. Andreoli scored one run and drove one in.

Second baseman Logan Watkins was 3 for 4 with a walk and two steals. Watkins also had two RBI.

Catcher Willson Contreras singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. He was 1 for 5.

Tennessee Smokies

Rained out. Doubleheader Friday.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans threw away the Frederick Keys (Orioles), 1-0.

It was the best start of the season for Jake Stinnett, tho tossed seven scoreless innings. Stinnett gave up eight hits. He struck out seven and walked two.

Ryan McNeil pitched two perfect innings to get his fifth save. McNeil struck out one.

The Pelicans got their sole run in the fourth inning after two walks and an error loaded the bases with two outs. A wild pitch then scored Yasiel Balaguert, who was 0 for 3 with a walk tonight.

Center fielder Rashad Crawford was 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs lost to the Dayton Dragons (Reds), 3-2.

Ryan Kellogg started and got the loss. He allowed three runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings. Kellogg did strike out six and walked none.

DH Ian Rice hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. It was Rice's seventh home run this year. Rice was 2 for 4.

Left fielder Eloy Jimenez went 2 for 4 with a double. He scored the other South Bend Cubs run in the eighth inning on a ground out.

Center fielder Roberto Caro went 2 for 3 with a walk.
