Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.
THE THREE HEROES:
- Superhero - Jake Arrieta (.320). For those keeping score at home: 14 starts, 10 Heroes, nine Superheroes, one Goat. And a bottom-step Goat at that. #gaudy
- Hero - Albert Almora Jr. (.066). In a neck-and-neck battle for the second spot, Almora ends up winning it on the grounder to short that led to the collision between Anthony Rizzo and Josh Harrison.
- Sidekick - Matt Szczur (.064). He did have the two-run homer on the second pitch of the game, but a bases-loaded strikeout and a popout to second with a runner on third ended up dragging him down.
THE THREE GOATS: There's a rather interesting turn of events on the Goat podium in this one...
- Billy Goat - Miguel Montero (-.084). Captain Clutch he was not on Friday.
- Goat - Addison Russell (-.021). He gets a ton of style points for his 13-pitch walk and his nifty play in the eighth, though. At this point he's going to need a wing in the style point bank named after him.
- Kid - Justin Grimm (+.002). Just how did Grimm end up on the final step as the Anti-Goat? First, there was a bump as the -.001 hitting of Trevor Cahill was moved out, and that bump led to a domino effect bump as Arrieta's +.001 hitting was moved out. I'm quite confident that this was the first time in the history of this feature in which a double-bump occurred with one bump being an Anti-Goat. What can I say... it's been that kind of a season.
RANKINGS THROUGH GAME 65: Arrieta just keeps piling on the points, once again taking a three-point lead on Jon Lester as they leave the rest of the pack well in the rear-view mirror.
