Chicago Cubs Minor League Wrap: June 20

Iowa, Eugene and Arizona sweep on a light schedule.

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Ian Happ was named Carolina League Player of the Week. Congratulations! It was the second time this season he has won this award.

Short schedule tonight

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs plucked the Memphis Redbirds, 5-4, snapping a four-game losing streak.

Rob Zastryzny improved his Iowa record to 3-1 after allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings. The positive stat was that he struck out seven and walked just one.

Spencer Patton pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save. Patton struck out one.

Center fielder John Andreoli continued his hot streak with a pair of doubles in a 2 for 3 game. Andreoli also walked once and scored two runs.

Left fielder Matt Murton was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Shortstop Kristopher Negron was 2 for 4 with a double.

Tennessee Smokies

All-Star Break

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

All-Star Break.

South Bend Cubs

All-Star Break

Eugene Emeralds

All-Star Break--just kidding. They just started their season three days ago.

The Eugene Emeralds jumped over the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks), 6-0.

Ems starter Manuel Rondon allowed a hit with one out in the third. The next batter reached on an error, but Rondon then ended the inning with a double play. Those were the only baserunners that Rondon allowed over five innings. He struck out four.

Michael Knighton pitched the final four innings for the save. Knighton gave up two hits in the ninth inning but in all honesty, one should have been an error and the other could have been called an error. Those were the only runners Knighton allowed. He struck out three.

Shortstop Andruw Monasterio gave the Ems a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run home run. Monasterio was 1 for 4.

Catcher Tyler Payne was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. Second baseman Yeiler Peguero was 2 for 4 with a double and scored once.

AZL Cubs

Beat the Brewers, 5-3.

The Arizona League started tonight. For those of you who are new readers, I don't do game writeups of the rookie league team. If something especially noteworthy happened, I will mention it. Otherwise, I just provide a link to the box score.

What was notable about this game is that Aaron Crow threw a scoreless inning of rehab. It's the first time that Crow threw in a game that counted since September of 2014.
