Chicago Cubs Minor League Wrap, July 13

Pelicans the only winner tonight.

Iowa Cubs

The International League beat the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game, 4-2.

Dan Vogelbach started at first base and went 0 for 2 with a strikeout. Armando Rivero faced two batters in relief. He struck out one and he gave up a tremendous home run to dead center to Chris Marrero.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies got smoked by the Chattanooga Lookouts (Twins), 11-1.

Starter Paul Blackburn got hammered for eight runs on nine hits over just four innings. One of the runs was unearned, but it was his error that let it in. Blackburn struck out five and walked one.

Second baseman Ian Happ was 2 for 4. Shortstop Carlos Penalver went 2 for 3 with a walk.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans solved the Frederick Keys (Orioles), 5-4.

Jeremy Null pitched five innings and gave up four runs, all in the second inning. Null allowed seven hits, including back-to-back solo home runs in the second. Null struck out one and walked no one.

James Pugliese threw three scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Pugliese surrendered two hits and he walked one. Pugliese struck out five.

Ryan McNeil took home the save after tossing a scoreless ninth. He allowed a two-out single, but nothing else. McNeil struck out one.

Left fielder Charcer Burks led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, his seventh of the season. Burks also hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to give the Pelicans a 5-4 lead. Burks was 2 for 4 and he stole a base.

First baseman Yasiel Balaguert drove in the other two Pelicans runs. The first came on a solo home run in the second inning, his 12th this season. Balaguert went 3 for 4 and scored twice.

South Bend Cubs

Rained out.

Eugene Emeralds

The Eugene Emeralds were vacuumed up by the Tri-City Dust Devils (Padres), 3-2.

Starter Bryan Hudson got the loss after giving up three runs in 4.2 innings. Hudson surrendered six hits, walked three and struck out three.

Shortstop Yeiler Peguero was 2 for 4.

AZL Cubs

Lost to the White Sox, 4-2.

Big news in this game was that Oscar De La Cruz made his season debut. He threw 37 pitches over three innings. The results don't matter.
