Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs beat the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 6-5.
Jordan Preis started and allowed four runs on nine hits over just four innings. Preis walked three and struck out three.
The win went to Armando Rivero, who allowed one run on one hit and one walk in two innings. Rivero struck out four.
Jose Rosario got a dramatic save in the ninth inning. Rosario loaded the bases with one out after an error, a walk and a single. But Rosario then got a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
First baseman Jeimer Candelario had a huge night tonight. in the second inning, Candelario hit his 13th home run of the season and ninth for Iowa with the bases empty in the second inning. Candelario was a perfect 3 for 3 with two doubles and the home run tonight. He also walked once. Candelario scored three times and had three runs batted in. Candelario now has an 11-game hitting streak.
Catcher Tim Federowicz was 2 for 3 with a walk and two RBI. Tommy La Stella was 2 for 4 with one run scored.
Chris Coghlan played the whole game at DH and was 2 for 4 and scored once.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies game at Jackson was cancelled because of unplayable field conditions. It will not be made up.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans pounded the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals), 5-0. It was Myrtle Beach's fifth-straight win.
Jeremy Null got the win with seven strong innings, giving up just two hits. Null walked one and struck out four.
The Pelicans scored all five runs in the top of the first inning and no one scored again in this game. Center fielder Donnie Dewees and DH Ian Rice were both 2 for 4 with a double, one run scored and one RBI.
First baseman Yasiel Balaguert was 2 for 4 with one run scored one one run batted. in. David Bote was 2 for 3 with a walk and he scored once.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were stopped by the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers), 2-0.
Jose Paulino took the hard-luck loss. Paulino gave up just one run on five hits over six innings. He struck out two and walked no one.
South Bend only managed three hits tonight. P.J. Higgins was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
Eugene Emeralds
The Eugene Emeralds calmed the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Giants), 6-4.
Starter Pedro Silvero pitched four innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out three.
Marc Huberman got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one single. He struck out three and walked nobody.
Wyatt Short pitched the ninth and had a nail-biting save after he loaded the bases after two were out. But Short got a fly ball to left to end the game and get the save. Short loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a hit batsman. He struck out one.
Center fielder D.J. Wilson was 3 for 6 with two stolen bases. He had one run batted in.
Shortstop Zach Short was 2 for 5 with a double and a walk. He scored one run.
Third baseman Wladimir Galindo went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. He scored one run and drove in two.
First baseman Jose Paniagua was 2 for 4 and scored once.
