Kudos well-deserved for the Chicago Cubs Twitter account.  I'm only 999,800 followers behind them.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

The Ramirez Catalyst of Game 127: No doubt about this one. With one on and nobody out in the top of the 10th, Kris Bryant hits his second homer of the night, this one to right-center to give the Cubs a 6-4 lead.  WPA impact: +.356.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Kris Bryant (.439). Hey, it's not how you start the night; it's how you finish it. And two homers in your final two plate appearances, one being a go-ahead shot, is a heck of a way to finish a night.
  • Hero - Jason Heyward (.257). There's definitely a fruit basket due to Kenley Jansen for tying the game with his wild pitch in the ninth, but it doesn't have to come from Heyward because he would have had the podium spot even without it. The wild pitch just makes the podium spot look a lot more impressive.
  • Sidekick - Travis Wood (.123). Took advantage of the perfect opportunity for a reliever to shine by pitching a perfect ninth inning in a tie game.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Ben Zobrist (-.154). He did have a couple of strikeouts, but the BABIP overlords came down on him hard in this one courtesy of this play by Chase Utley.
  • Goat - Mike Montgomery (-.149 / -.218). He put a lot of people on base in this one -- 11 in five innings -- but managed to walk away with only three runs allowed. And then there were the two blown bunt opportunities to make the slash line look pretty blah.
  • Kid - Jorge Soler (-.079). Only had one opportunity with a runner on base in this game, and not being able to capitalize on it ended up landing him on the final step.

RANKINGS THROUGH GAME 127: Bryant continues his journey back to even ground while Heyward tries to claw his way out of the minus-40 club.
