Good morning. MLB needs a full slate of games going on when the trade deadline passes. How much fun is #hugwatch if we don't get to see any hugs?
- I can't list all the trades at the deadline, so here is a list of all of them with links if you want to find out more.
- And I do this every year: Grant Brisbee has the "winners and losers" at the trade deadline.
- John Perrotto has "winners and losers."
- Dayn Perry has "winners and losers."
- David Schoenfield has "winners and losers."
- Chris Cwik has "winners and losers."
- Albert Chen has "winners and losers."
- Dave Brown has "winners and losers." He claims it's scientific.
- Bill Baer has "winners and losers."
- Michael Baumann has "winners and losers."
- Will Leitch goes the extra mile and gives his take for every team at the trade deadline, even the ones who didn't make a deal.
- Dieter Kurtenbach also grades every team at the deadline.
- Lazy Bob Nightengale just declares the Rangers the winners and goes home.
- Jonah Keri also just lazily declares the Rangers the winner too, although he does go into a nice point about the Rangers organization is so strong that they can make multiple bad trades and still be good. Yes, Kyle Hendricks and other Cubs are mentioned.
- Ken Rosenthal notes that patience paid off for Rangers GM Jon Daniels at the deadline.
- Jayson Stark just marvels at how the Cubs and Indians are buyers and the Yankees are sellers.
- Richard Justice looks at how the players suspended for domestic violence affected the trade deadline.
- Eric Longenhagen ranks all the minor-league prospects traded at the deadline.
- Who wasn't traded? Yasiel Puig was not traded. So the Dodgers are sending Puig down to Triple-A. #puigyourfriend
- Ken Rosenthal, who really is the best in the business, erroneously reported that Puig had "stormed off" when he was told that he was being demoted. The Dodgers denied that happened and said that Puig was told to not even report to Dodger Stadium. Rosenthal apologized, Puig accepted the apology and told Rosenthal #puigyourfriend.
- Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi would not commit either way when asked if Puig had played his last game with the Dodgers. Zaidi said that Puig's behavior was also a factor, although he added that there were no major problems with Puig, just minor ones. #puigyourfriend
- Eric Nusbaum writes that while the Dodgers made a great trade at the deadline, they mishandled the situation with Puig. Also, when Zaidi was asked if #puigyourfriend, he laughed and said yes, all the Dodgers players were his friends.
- R.J. Anderson thinks that Puig should still fit in the Dodgers long-term plans. #puigyourfriend
- Jeff Sullivan notes that while Puig's future doesn't look as bright as it did a couple seasons ago, some team should still take a chance on him. #puigyourfriend
- Doug Padilla notes there is never a dull moment with Puig. #puigyourfriend
- Andrew Marchand thinks that the Yankees moves at the trade deadline sets the team up to become a "super-team" in 2018.
- Mike Lupica praises the Yankees for finally admitted they were old and doing something about it.
- Wallace Matthews reports that the Yankees will not release Alex Rodriguez today. No guarantees about tomorrow or next week though.
- Rodriguez is "at peace" with whatever happens.
- Craig Calcaterra is amazed how how ordinarily the anything-but-ordinary career of Alex Rodriguez is coming to an end.
- Just in case you were curious, Matt Snyder explains exactly how trades can happen after the trade deadline.
- Matt Kemp writes about being traded to the Braves, his favorite team as a child. (Check out the picture of the ten-year-old Kemp in a Braves jacket.) He also admits that the joy of the game had left him in recent days, and he apologizes for that. He also thanks the fans in San Diego.
- Homer Bailey is upset that the Reds traded Jay Bruce.
- Barry Bloom wonders how Bruce is going to fit in the Mets outfield.
- Scott Feldman was traded from the Astros to the Blue Jays and in a weird twist, he pitched and took the loss against the Astros just a few hours later. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he had mixed feelings about facing off against Feldman.
- Indians fan Matt Borcas declares that Jonathan Lucroy is his sworn nemesis.
- Reds first baseman Joey Votto got angry with a Reds fan who interfered with his catching a foul ball in the stands. Votto later apologized with an autographed baseball.
- Umpire Bob Davidson ejected a heckling fan from the game. He did say it was the only time he'd been applauded in Philadelphia.
- Twins rookie Max Kepler is showing some impressive power.
- Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is likely out for the season with a broken thumb.
- A nine-year-old, who received the first ever bilateral hand transplant, threw out the first pitch at an Orioles game to his favorite player, Adam Jones. He's got good taste in players.
- Matt Duffy was traded from the Giants to the Rays. His giant cat, however, is staying in California. He says Florida is too hot for the cat.
- And finally, Grant Holmes of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes decided to have a little fun on Sunday and hug all of his fellow teammates, making fans in the stands (and on Twitter) think he'd been traded. Good joke, except the Dodgers later traded Holmes to the Athletics the next day. Oops. I hope he didn't put an idea in the heads of the front office.
And tomorrow will be a better day than today, Buster.
