As the Cubs go for their first division title since 2008 and also look to be the first division titlist in 2016, a couple of site notes.

You likely remember that during last year's postseason, Josh posted a "Rapid Recap" of all the games, in order to give you a quick review and place to talk about the game. We'll do that again during the postseason this year, and if the Cubs do win tonight, we'll have a "Rapid Recap" up shortly after the game ends. I'll still have my regular night-game recap up at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow.

The Cardinals game against the Giants starts at 9:15 p.m. CT. If the Cubs should, somehow, lose tonight (horrors!), but the Cardinals also lose, the division will be clinched. If that happens, Josh will have a quick summary of the StL/SF game and a place for you to celebrate the division title.

If the Cubs lose (horrors!) and the Cardinals win, we'll try this all again on Friday!

A couple of quotes from Cubs players about the possibilities tonight:

Now, on to the important stuff -- winning the game! Here are today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Fowler CF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Zobrist 2B, Russell SS, Soler LF, Heyward RF, Montero C, Montgomery P

Brewers lineup:

Villar 2B, Broxton CF, Braun LF, Carter 1B, Perez 3B, Santana RF, Arcia SS, Maldonado C, Nelson P

Mike Montgomery

Jimmy Nelson

Raise your hand if you knew before the season that the Cubs' potential division-clinching game this year would be started by Mike Montgomery. (Of course you didn't. But here we are.)

Montgomery made two relief appearances against the Cardinals last time they were at Wrigley, throwing three total innings, allowing one hit and two walks, and striking out five. He's been doing ... well, just okay in his starts. He seems to go along all right for the first three or four innings, then the second time through the lineup, he has trouble. Overall in four Cubs starts: 18⅓ innings, 3.93 ERA, 1.255 WHIP. It's the 11 walks in those 18⅓ innings that are troubling. Hopefully he can cut down on those.

Jimmy Nelson has made four starts against the Cubs this year and he has also had trouble with walks: 13 in 22⅔ innings. The Cubs won all four games, and current Cubs are hitting .259 (41-for-158) against him with seven home runs. Two of those are from Jorge Soler, who is 7-for-20 (.350) against Nelson, and also has three doubles against him.

Today's game is on CSN Chicago.

SB Nation game preview

Please visit our SB Nation Brewers site Brew Crew Ball. If you do go there to interact with Brewers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

The 2016 Game Thread procedure will be the same as the one used at the end of 2015. Here's how it works.

You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream™ containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream™ as noted above.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
