With the signing of Brett Anderson, the Cubs’ 40-man roster is now full. It’s just 20 days until pitchers and catchers report to camp, so it doesn’t seem real likely that there will be any changes to that group, unless the Cubs want to try to slip someone through waivers again.
Anderson, it seems to me, was signed to compete for the fifth-starter role, just as Tyson Ross would have been in that slot if he had been signed. Both Ross and Anderson are coming off injuries that ruined their 2016 seasons.
Here, then, is my best guess for the roster that will start the season in St. Louis on April 2. You might have some different ideas, so feel free to share.
