Eloy Jimenez, Ian Happ Among 24 Cubs Non-Roster Invitees To Spring Training

A couple of the Cubs’ top prospects will get playing time in big-league games this spring.

In addition to the 40 men on the Cubs’ current offseason roster, the team Friday issued 24 invitations to non-roster players for spring camp.

While few of these players have any chance of making the 25-man roster for Opening Night in St. Louis, they will provide rest for regulars during the longer-than-usual spring training, and many of them will wind up at Triple-A Iowa this summer as injury replacements.

The Cubs’ first-round pick in 2015, Ian Happ, who starred in the Arizona Fall League championship game, and Eloy Jimenez, who wowed fans with great defense in last summer’s Futures Game, are among the top names on the list.

Here are the 24 players, by position. Under pitchers, lefthanders are indicated with * . Some of these names you will recognize from previous springs.
