The Mesa Solar Sox won the Arizona Fall League’s East Division title and thus qualified for the AFL championship game against the West Division champion Peoria Javelinas. The game will take place this afternoon at 2 p.m. CT at Scottsdale Stadium, spring-training home of the San Francisco Giants.
The Solar Sox have prospects from the Cubs, Astros, Athletics, Tigers and Nationals.
The Javelinas have prospects from the Blue Jays, Braves, Red Sox, Padres and Mariners.
In last year’s AFL championship game, Ian Happ hit two home runs, presaging his callup to the major leagues in 2017. Happ went 4-for-4 as Mesa won the 2016 league title, so the Solar Sox are going for their second consecutive AFL championship.
It’s not likely that any of the Cubs prospects playing in the AFL this year will make it to the big leagues in 2018, but they are all good players who could be on the Cubs’ major-league roster sometime soon.
Here’s the complete Mesa roster.
