The Cubs announced on Thursday all the information you need to know for buying single-game tickets to see the defending World Series champions. There’s a lot of info here, so here goes.
Single game tickets go on sale Friday, February 24, at 10 a.m. CT and will be available on cubs.com or by calling 800-THE-CUBS (800-843-2827). As has been the case the last couple of years due to construction, there will be no on-sale at the ballpark on the first weekend of ticket sales. However, if you do want to buy tickets in person, you can do so beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, February 27 at the four ticket windows on Waveland Avenue near the main entrance to the bleachers. Starting on February 27, those windows will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays prior to Opening Night.
If you can’t wait for that date and time, the Cubs are also having their usual Mastercard presale, which will begin Tuesday, February 21 at noon CT. On that day you can buy tickets (online only) at cubs.com for a 20 percent premium over face, or 15 percent if you buy using a Mastercard.
“Given the unprecedented demand for our tickets following last year’s World Series championship, we urge fans to purchase tickets to their desired dates as early as possible. Many of our popular games are expected to sell quickly,” said Colin Faulkner, Cubs senior vice president of sales and marketing. “This year, as we continue to improve convenience for our fans, we are pleased to offer mobile ticketing as a secure, instant delivery option when purchasing tickets for the 2017 season.”
Here’s the scoop on mobile ticketing: the Cubs are offering this through the MLB.com Ballpark app as the instant delivery option for fans and have eliminated the print-at-home method. You do, though, still have the choice to receive hard copy tickets in the mail or at Will Call when you buy tickets at cubs.com. More details about Cubs mobile ticketing, including a video tutorial and detailed FAQ section, can be found at cubs.com/ballparkapp.
Here are the full details for the two sale dates noted above. I assume there will be a presale for season-ticket holders prior to these dates, but none has yet been announced. UPDATE! STH will have a Mastercard presale before the open Mastercard presale, for two hours on February 21, 10 a.m. CT to 11:59 a.m. CT. Then STH get a regular presale Thursday, February 23, from noon to 10 p.m. CT.
ONLINE MASTERCARD PRESALE
The Mastercard Presale starts Tuesday, February 21, at noon CT and runs through Wednesday, February 22, at 11:59 p.m. CT. If you use a Mastercard you can purchase single game tickets in advance of the general on-sale date at a 15 percent premium, while fans using other forms of payment can buy tickets at a 20 percent premium. This sale is online only at cubs.com.
SINGLE GAME GENERAL ON-SALE
On Friday, February 24, you can purchase tickets at cubs.com, by phone at 1-800-THE-CUBS (800-843-2827) or via the Tickets tab on the MLB Ballpark app.
The virtual waiting room will begin accepting customers at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., customers will be randomly selected from the VWR to begin buying tickets, and I’ll have a “Tales from the VWR” post that morning for you to share your tales of success or woe. All internet customers will need a valid cubs.com account. The Cubs recommend that you register for an account before you go online or use the app for any of these sales.
