SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- Once again, the Cubs will face a makeshift team of Mariners, made necessary by the fact that Seattle has five key players away for the World Baseball Classic -- Jean Segura, Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, Felix Hernandez and Edwin Diaz.
I'm not making the trip to Peoria for this one, so will be following along with the Mariners TV broadcast (see below for details).
Here are today's particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Jay LF, Almora CF, Candelario 3B, Montero C, Jimenez RF, Szczur DH, Kawasaki 3B, Dominguez 1B, Young 2B
Once again, most of the regulars get the day off. So far, they've played about every other day. I'd think soon that would start to change.
Mariners lineup:
Dyson CF, Gamel RF, Seager 3B, Vogelbach 1B. Ruiz C, Motter SS, Powell LF, Freeman 2B, Littlewood DH
Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs. Other Cubs pitchers scheduled: Zac Rosscup, Alec Mills, Seth Frankoff, Dylan Floro and Maikel Cleto.
Chris Heston gets the call for the Mariners. Also scheduled to throw for Seattle: Nick Vincent, Marc Rzepczynski, Dan Altavilla and Thyago Vieira.
Today’s game is on cubs.com with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie. It’s being televised by Root Sports Northwest with the Mariners broadcast team and will be available on MLB.tv. The Root Sports telecast will be rebroadcast on MLB Network Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CT.
Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
Please visit our SB Nation Mariners site Lookout Landing. If you do go there to interact with Mariners fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.
For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.
These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Night.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
