Cubs vs. Padres at Peoria Preview, Monday 3/13, 3:10 CT

Another away game that will draw many Cubs fans.

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- If you were looking for Cubs everyday players to start playing multiple games in a row, today isn't that day (see lineup below). We are still almost three weeks to Opening Night, and I wouldn't necessarily think we'd start seeing that until after the Cubs' next spring off day, which will be a week from tomorrow.

Site note: The recap of this game will be delayed. The Cubs are having a World Series trophy viewing for spring season-ticket holders from 4 to 6 p.m. Arizona time today, so I'll be heading there right after the game in Peoria. The recap should be up by mid-evening.

Here are today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

La Stella 3B, Almora CF, Jay LF, Contreras C, Candelario 1B, Szczur RF, Happ 2B, Kawasaki SS, Hannemann DH

Once again (as happened Friday against the Mariners), most of the regulars are spared the long bus ride to Peoria.

Padres lineup:

Jankowski CF, Spangenberg 3B, Myers 1B, Blash RF, Renfroe DH, Cordero LF, Asuaje 2B, Torrens C, Sardinas SS

Jabari Blash, who the Padres got as the PTBNL in the deal that sent Yonder Alonso to the A's, is leading all major-league players in home runs this spring -- five, in only 22 at-bats. He's also walked six times and scored 10 runs in 11 games. Could be a player to watch this year.

John Lackey will start for the Cubs. Other Cubs scheduled to throw today: David Rollins, Jake Buchanan, Jhondaniel Medina and Aaron Brooks.

Luis Perdomo gets the call for the Padres.

Today’s game is on cubs.com with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie. It’s also on Fox Sports San Diego with the Padres broadcast team and available on MLB.tv. There will be a rebroadcast on MLB Network tomorrow (Tuesday, March 14) at 9 a.m. CT.

MLB.com Gameday

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Please visit our SB Nation Padres site Gaslamp Ball. If you do go there to interact with Padres fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.

For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 3 p.m. CT and 4:30 p.m. CT.

These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Night.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
