SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- We enter the final week of spring training with three more Cactus League games, then two in Houston before the season begins next Sunday in St. Louis.
With Jon Lester scheduled to go today, I would assume that Joe Maddon is going to line up his starters in the order noted last week for the season. Thus it should be Jake Arrieta Tuesday against the Giants in Mesa, John Lackey vs. the A's Wednesday in Mesa, then Brett Anderson and Kyle Hendricks against the Astros in Houston. I'd also expect the regulars to start playing longer in games and for these to be players somewhat more like regular-season games.
Subject to change, of course. I'm skipping this one and will watch on TV with all of you. Broadcast details below.
Incidentally, if you have been wondering about all the tie games this spring, Elias reports the Cubs are the 16th team since 2010 to record at least five ties in a spring season. The record is eight, by the 2015 Dodgers.
There are roster cuts reportedly coming this evening. When I get news on them I'll post separately.
Here are the rest of today's particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Schwarber RF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Baez 2B, Contreras C, Happ LF, Almora CF, Lester P, Young SS
Ian Happ starts to get some time in the outfield after playing mostly second base this spring. And, Addison Russell and Ben Zobrist are taking more time to come back from minor injuries.
Indians lineup:
Ramirez 2B, Lindor SS, Santana DH, Encarnacion 1B, Guyer LF, Jackson CF, Diaz 3B, Perez C, Almonte RF
Jon Lester will start for the Cubs. Others on the Cubs list tonight: Rob Zastryzny, Wade Davis, Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop. This will be the first time this spring that Davis, Rondon and Strop will have thrown on consecutive days.
Danny Salazar gets the call for the Indians. Others on the Indians pitching list: Andrew Miller, Shawn Armstrong, Nick Goody and Kyle Crockett. Goody and Crockett pitched against the Cubs Friday in Mesa.
Today’s game is on 670 The Score with Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer. It’s also on Sports Time Ohio with the Indians broadcast team, and that will be carried live on MLB Network, including the Chicago market.
Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
Please visit our SB Nation Indians site Let’s Go Tribe. If you do go there to interact with Indians fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.
For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 8 p.m. CT and 9:30 p.m. CT.
These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Night.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
