Cubs vs. Athletics at Mesa Preview, Wednesday 3/29, 3:05 CT

The Cubs have won only three Cactus League games at Sloan Park this year.

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- As is often said, wins and losses in spring training mean almost nothing. The Cubs' 11-17 mark as of today is pretty close to the 11-19 record they posted last year, and last year worked out pretty well.

Still, it would be nice to post a win to wrap up the Cactus League season. Even if they don't, the Cubs will likely break last year's all-time spring training attendance record.

Then it's on to two practice games in Houston before the season begins Sunday night in St. Louis.

Here are today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Schwarber DH, Bryant 3B, Heyward RF, Zobrist 2B, Contreras C, Almora CF, Szczur LF, Caratini 1B, Penalver SS

Still no Addison Russell.

Athletics lineup:

R. Davis CF, Joyce RF, Healy DH, Vogt C, Lowrie 3B, Alonso 1B, Semien SS, Canha LF, Rosales 2B

John Lackey will start for the Cubs. Today's reliever list: Justin Grimm, Koji Uehara, Carl Edwards Jr. and Williams Perez.

Kendall Graveman gets the call for the A’s. Also on the A's list: Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson.

Today’s game is on cubs.com with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie. No TV today.

MLB.com Gameday

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Please visit our SB Nation Athletics site Athletics Nation. If you do go there to interact with A’s fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.

For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 3 p.m. CT and 4:30 p.m. CT.

These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Night.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
