SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- What, you again?
The Cubs faced the Reds just yesterday, and gave them their first win of the spring. With 15 teams now in the Cactus League, teams generally face each other just twice a spring, home and home. The Cubs and Reds will play five times this spring, but today will be the only Sloan Park meeting. In addition to Thursday's meeting at Goodyear, the teams will play at Goodyear again on March 22 and then twice in Las Vegas, March 25 and 26.
Just more chances for Cubs hitters to get familiar with Reds pitching, who they crushed last year. They won't have to wait long to see them in April, either; the clubs will meet April 21-22-23 in Cincinnati.
Cubs lineup:
Heyward RF, Almora CF, Jay LF, Baez SS, Jimenez DH, Candelario 3B, La Stella 2B, Dominguez 1B, Corporan C
Most of the regulars get Friday off after the two split-squad games Thursday. Tommy La Stella makes his spring debut.
Reds lineup:
Peraza 2B, Cozart SS, Suarez 3B, Schebler RF, Herrera DH, Jennings LF, Barnhart C, Iribarren 1B, Alcantara CF
Once again, our old friend Arismendy Alcantara, this time in center field.
Mike Montgomery will start for the Cubs. Other Cubs pitchers scheduled: Aaron Brooks, Maikel Cleto, Brian Duensing, Jim Henderson and Casey Kelly.
Tim Adleman gets the call for the Reds.
Today’s game is on cubs.com with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie.
Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
Please visit our SB Nation Reds site Red Reporter. If you do go there to interact with Reds fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.
For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.
These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Night.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
