Cubs vs. Mariners at Mesa Preview, Thursday 3/9, 2:05 CT

The Cubs resume Cactus League action this afternoon.

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- Look below and you'll see the likely Cubs starting lineup for the season opener in St. Louis. Of course, there won't be a DH that day and Joe Maddon has hinted he'll be batting the pitcher eighth this year, at least to start out. Otherwise I think you're looking at the starting eight, and at least the first seven will likely be hitting in that order.

Here are the rest of today's particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Schwarber LF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Zobrist 2B, Russell SS, Heyward RF, Contreras C, Davis DH, Jay CF

That's minor-league catcher Taylor Davis at DH.

Mariners lineup:

Heredia LF, Martin CF, Haniger RF, Valencia 1B, Zunino C, Motter 3B, Peterson DH, Smith 2B, O'Malley SS

The Mariners played Wednesday night, so many of their regulars get today off.

Mike Montgomery will start for the Cubs. Brett Anderson is scheduled after him, so they'll likely piggyback two innings each again. Other Cubs pitchers on today's list: David Rollins, Brian Duensing, Wade Davis, Koji Uehara and Justin Grimm.

James Paxton gets the call for the Mariners.

Today’s game is on cubs.com with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie. No TV today.

MLB.com Gameday

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

Please visit our SB Nation Mariners site Lookout Landing. If you do go there to interact with Mariners fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

Please note that during spring training, Gameday doesn't usually go pitch-by-pitch as it does during the regular season -- usually, it will update after each at-bat.

For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at five minutes to game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 2 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT.

These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. There will also be a StoryStream on the front page with all the game thread links, as well as the recap after the game is over. The pitcher boxes and regular-season stats will return on Opening Night.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
