ST. LOUIS — I was sitting around trying to decide whether to head over to Busch Stadium for this afternoon’s scheduled contest when the Cardinals made that decision for me:
#Cubs and #Cardinals postponed. Makeup is tomorrow at 12:45 p.m.

This was a wise decision. Rain is forecast all day and well into the evening, with possible thunderstorms, so rather than wait around looking for the proverbial “window”, the Cardinals called the game before the gates even opened at the ballpark.
I would imagine that both teams would use the lineups and starting pitchers already announced for Wednesday (John Lackey vs. Lance Lynn). Both teams also have an off day next week, so none of this had to be approved by the MLBPA.
It does mean that the Cubs lose tomorrow as an off day, likely spent in Chicago before they bus up to Milwaukee for the three-game set that begins Friday night. Even so, with a short flight to Chicago they’ll likely be home by Thursday evening.
Thursday’s forecast isn’t great:
Thursday
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Northwest wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
But, at least it won’t be raining.
