Since the Cubs lost a few games to the Brewers at the end of 2016, it would be nice to start 2017 by taking the first series of the year between the two teams.
I'm expecting another loud, full house at Miller Park, filled with Cubs fans. A win would complete a successful road trip at 4-2.
Here are today’s particulars.
Cubs lineup:
Schwarber LF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Zobrist 2B, Russell SS, Heyward RF, Montero C, Arrieta P, Jay CF
.@JArrieta34 makes his 100th career #Cubs start in today's series finale!

Jake Arrieta had a successful first start of 2017, allowing just one unearned run in six innings vs. the Cardinals last Tuesday. Against the Brewers last year he didn't do all that well: 4.86 ERA, 1.500 WHIP in 16⅔ innings with 15 (!) walks. Walks were one of Jake's biggest issues last year, if he can cut down on those, good things should happen. Jake did not pitch in Miller Park in 2016.
As noted above, today is Jake's 100th start as a Cub. He needs 1⅓ innings for 1,000 in his big-league career.
Zach Davies got pounded by the Rockies in his first 2017 start last Monday (nine hits, four walks and six earned runs in 4⅓ innings). Last year the Cubs hit him pretty hard: 5.32 ERA, 1.455 WHIP in four starts (22 innings) including this pounding at Wrigley Field on August 18. Current Cubs are hitting .300 (24-for-80) against Davies with one home run (Kris Bryant).
Today's game is on WGN.

Please visit our SB Nation Brewers site Brew Crew Ball. If you do go there to interact with Brewers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
The 2017 Game Thread procedure will be the same as the one used during 2016. Here's how it works.
You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
