I had a prescheduled family night out tonight, so despite the fact that it seems that I have no life beyond watching major and minor league baseball, I actually do.
Eloy Jimenez, the Cubs top prospect, was activated today from Extended Spring Training and assigned to High-A Myrtle Beach. However . . .
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs got swarmed by the Salt Lake Bees (Angels), 5-4 in 11 innings.
Seth Frankoff pitched the first six innings and allowed three runs on just three hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Dylan Floro pitched a perfect tenth inning, striking out one. However, the first batter he faced in the 11th inning, Nolan Fontana, hit an inside-the-park walkoff home run.
Second baseman Chesny Young was 2 for 5 and scored once. First baseman Chris Dominguez was 2 for 5 with one run batted in.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies slipped up against the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 3-1.
Starter Jen-Ho Tseng made one mistake, a solo home run to Justin O’Conner in the second inning. It was enough to give him his first loss of the season. Tseng went seven innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out three and walked nobody.
Third baseman Jason Vosler was 2 for 4 and scored the lone Smokies run with two out in the bottom of the ninth.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Postponed. So Eloy will have to wait until tomorrow’s doubleheader.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs swept the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals), 4-0.
It was a good start for Jose Paulino, who got the win with six scoreless frames. Paulino allowed six hits. He walked one, hit one batter and struck out three.
Left fielder Kevonte Mitchell hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth, his fourth of the year. Mitchell was 2 for 4 and also doubled.
Second baseman Yeiler Peguero went 2 for 3 with a walk and one runs scored.
