Short schedule tonight.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were trumped by the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks), 2-1.
Seth Frankoff pitched a very good game tonight and got stuck with the loss anyway. Frankoff went seven innings and allowed the two runs on just four hits. He struck out eight and walked just two. Frankoff also singled home the only Iowa run of the game in the fifth inning.
First baseman Taylor Davis was 1 for 1 with two walks. He doubled and scored in the fifth inning.
Tennessee Smokies
Off day.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Rained out.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs gave the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays) a flat tire, 4-1 in ten innings.
South Bend starter Duncan Robinson gave up solo home run to Rene Pinto in the bottom of the second inning and that was the only run the Hot Rods would get. Robinson pitched six innings and allowed five hits. He did not walk anyone and struck out three.
Tyler Peyton, a 29th-round pick out of the University of Iowa last season, got his first professional win tonight with three scoreless innings in relief of Robinson. Peyton gave up just one hit, walked no one and struck out five.
Dakota Mekkes pitched the bottom of the tenth and got the save. He did allow two singles with one out, but he then induced a double play to end the game. Mekkes struck out one.
Alberto Mineo led off the top of the tenth with a double and then Wladimir Galindo walked to put two on and no outs. Vimael Machin tried to bunt the runners over and the Hot Rods made two throwing errors on the play and South Bend scored three runs as Machin circled the bases. In fact, all four runs South Bend scored tonight scored on Bowling Green errors.
Galindo was 2 for 4 with a double and the walk. Mineo was 1 for 5. Machin was 2 for 3 with a walk.
