Well.

That first attempt against the Yankees didn't work out so well, did it.

Let's try this again, shall we?

Here are today’s particulars.

Cubs lineup:

Zobrist RF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Russell SS, Contreras C, Almora CF, Baez 2B, Anderson P, Jay LF

Kyle Schwarber gets the night off against a lefthander. (Personally, I think I'd put Jon Jay in right field and Ben Zobrist in left.)

Yankees lineup:

Gardner LF, Hicks CF, Castro 2B, Judge RF, Sanchez C, Gregorius SS, Headley 3B, Carter 1B, Montgomery P

Brett Anderson vs. Jordan Montgomery

Brett Anderson didn't make it out of the second inning in his last start. This can largely be forgiven because he was pitching in a downpour in the first inning and his breaking pitches weren't moving the way he needs them to in order to succeed and the Phillies pounded him.

Hopefully, this one will be different. Anderson faced the Yankees five times when he was with the A's, but not since 2011, so those are largely irrelevant. Current Yankees are a small-sample-size 2-for-28 against him, and he's had success vs. Jacoby Ellsbury (1-for-14).

Jordan Montgomery (no relation to the Cubs reliever Mike Montgomery) was the Yankees' fourth-round pick in 2014 and he will be making his fifth major-league start tonight. He's had some decent success in his first four outings (23 strikeouts in 21⅔ innings), but also has walked 10 batters in those innings. He seems an ordinary fastball-changeup-curveball type pitcher without great velocity. Hopefully the Cubs, who he has never faced, can take advantage of that.

Today's game is on Fox-TV. As far as I know this is a full national broadcast with no blackouts. Check your OTA/cable/satellite listings for the channel in your area.

SB Nation game preview

Please visit our SB Nation Yankees site Pinstripe Alley. If you do go there to interact with Yankees fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.

The 2017 Game Thread procedure will be the same as the one used during 2016. Here's how it works.

You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream as noted above.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
