Ben Zobrist reportedly hurt his wrist swinging at a pitch from the Dodgers’ Alex Wood on May 26, the first game of the Cubs’ six-game California trip in which they got swept.
Zobrist had been on something of a hot streak before that game. In his previous eight games he’d hit .464/.483/.893 (13-for-28) with three home runs.
Since May 26 he’s hitting .109/.226/.196 (5-for-49) with one home run. In reality, he should have probably been DL’d after missing two games following that swing on May 26.
Now, the Cubs are doing the right thing:
#Cubs Zobrist to DL (left wrist inflammation). He'll get MRI. La Stella to be added.

It might or might not be a coincidence, but the Cubs are 7-12 since May 25, including the game in which Zobrist got hurt. Obviously there’s more to it than that, but as noted above, Zobrist was just getting hot and the Cubs had won seven of nine before that West Coast trip.
The DL stint is backdated to Tuesday, since Zobrist didn’t play Wednesday. That means he’ll only have to sit out another week. Hopefully that’ll be enough to get his wrist back to 100 percent.
