There was only one game today as three leagues are still in their All-Star break and one was travelling. But this gives me an opportunity to report that South Bend’s Four Winds Field was named “Best Class-A Ballpark” in a vote conducted by Baseball Digest. It was a vote that counted one-third industry professionals, one-third vendors and one-third fans and the media, so it wasn’t just a “who can stuff the ballot most” vote.
I know that many of you have been out to South Bend and have reported having a terrific time out there. Maybe this will give you another reason to go out there.
The Iowa Cubs spent the day travelling to Texas. The Smokies, Pelicans and South Bend are all still on their All-Star break and will resume play tomorrow.
Eugene Emeralds
The Eugene Emeralds couldn’t fly with the Boise Hawks (Rockies), 4-1.
Starter Javier Assad surrendered two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Second baseman Rafael Narea went 2 for 4.
