Cubs roster move: Jason Heyward heads to the disabled list

The Cubs right fielder scraped his hand pretty badly on Sunday.

There’s even more Cubs roster news after the demotion of Kyle Schwarber to Triple-A Iowa:

Jason Heyward is having a pretty good year. He's playing his usual stellar defense and his hitting had improved significantly from last year.

Sunday in Pittsburgh, Heyward slid and scraped his hand up pretty bad:

Fortunately, this isn't an injury to any muscle or bone, just skin that needs to heal so Heyward can swing a bat and grip a baseball, so once it's healed he should be ready to go. The DL stint is likely retroactive to Monday, since Heyward hasn't played since then.

Mark Zagunis is hitting .249/.399/.474 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI at Triple-A Iowa. He was the Cubs’ third-round draft pick in 2014 out of Virginia Tech. When he plays for the Cubs he’ll be making his major-league debut.

This will be Dylan Floro’s fourth stint on the big-league roster this year. He’s pitched in two games; the third time he did not appear. My guess is that he goes back to Iowa on Friday when Ben Zobrist is eligible to be activated.
