Cubs prospect Eloy Jimenez is generally considered the team’s top prospect. He’s currently hitting .269/.356/.496 at High-A Myrtle Beach, with seven home runs in 134 at-bats after missing the early part of the season with an injury suffered during spring training.
Thursday, Jimenez was named to the World team for the MLB All-Star Futures Game, a showcase for baseball’s best prospects. It’s the second straight year Jimenez will play in this game.
You might remember this fantastic catch he made last year in San Diego:
That video begins with a nice grab made by Manuel Margot, who is now with the Padres.
Jimenez also hit a long home run in the Futures Game in 2016. Here’s how it looked from the Petco Park press box:
Jimenez won’t turn 21 until November, and if he keeps hitting the way he has, a promotion to Double-A later this year isn’t out of the question.
The Futures Game will be played Sunday, July 9 at 3 p.m. CT at Marlins Park. It’ll be televised by MLB Network. Congratulations to Eloy on his selection.
