Only the Smokies played today, unless you count the teams in the Dominican Summer League. I don’t, at least not for the purposes of the Minor League Wrap. The teams do count though.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies gobbled up the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 8-4.

Starter Duane Underwood Jr. improved his record to 8-4 after he allowed three runs on five hits over 5.1 innings. So not a “quality start” but a win. Underwood struck out six and walked three.

First baseman Kevin Cornelius hit two home runs today. The first was a solo home run in the second inning and the second was a two-run home run in the third. Cornelius now has three home runs this season. He also hit a double and an RBI single in the sixth inning for four total RBI and 11 total bases in a 4 for 5 game. Cornelius scored three runs.

Center fielder Trey Martin was 3 for 6 with a stolen base. He hit a two-run single in the sixth inning and he scored one run.

Third baseman Jason Vosler was 3 for 5 with two RBI. Shortstop Carlos Penalver was 3 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored.
