Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were grounded by the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals), 4-2.
Starter Scott Carroll took the loss after he was touched for three runs on five hits over five innings. One of the three runs was unearned. Carroll walked two and struck out four.
Both Iowa runs came on an Elliot Soto double in the bottom of the fifth inning. Soto went 2 for 3.
Chris Dominguez was 2 for 3.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies defenestrated the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 10-3.
Steve Perakslis got the win after allowing two runs on six hits over five innings. Both runs he allowed came on a monster home run by Eloy Jimenez. Perakslis walked two and struck out three.
Left fielder Charcer Burks tied the score 2-2 with a solo home run in the third inning. It was his tenth blast of the season. Burks went 1 for 4 with a walk.
Right fielder Jeffrey Baez was a home run short of the cycle as he went 4 for 5 with a double and a triple. Baez scored three time and drove in three. He also stole one base.
Shortstop Carlos Penalver was 4 for 5 with a double. Penalver scored twice and had one RBI.
Catcher Cael Brockmeyer was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were stuck in the Carolina Mudcats (Brewers), 3-2.
Starter Duncan Robinson allowed just one run on three hits over five innings. Robinson walked three and struck out four.
David Berg took the loss when he gave up two runs on three hits over two innings. Berg walked one and struck out two.
First baseman Tyler Alamo was 2 for 4 and scored once. Right fielder Robert Garcia was 2 for 3.
Highlights:
South Bend Cubs
Tyler Payne hit a walkoff grand slam as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans sank the Lake County Captains (Indians), 7-6. It was South Bend’s 9th straight win.
Erling Moreno started and he gave up five runs on four hits over 5.1 innings as the Cubs fell in a 5-0 hole by the top of the sixth. Moreno walked five and struck out five.
Yapson Gomez went the rest of the way and got the win. His final line was 3.2 innings pitched, allowing one run on four hits. Yapson stuck out three and he didn’t wear anyone.
Payne’s grand slam came with one out in the ninth inning and was his sixth of the season. Payne also doubled and walked in a 2 for 3 night. He scored two runs.
Right fielder Chris Pieters went 2 for 4 with a double and he scored twice. Third baseman Austin Upshaw was 2 for 3 and he was hit by a pitch. Upshaw had one RBI and he scored on the Payne slam.

Eugene Emeralds
The Eugene Emeralds dried out the Everett AquaSox (Mariners), 3-2.
Starter Corey Abbott pitched the first three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits. Abbott walked one and struck out four.
Enrique De Los Rios was terrific over the next five innings, allowing no runs and just one hit in getting the win. He walked one and struck out seven.
Jake Steffens pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save. He struck out one.
Third baseman Austin Filiere had a pair of doubles in a 2 for 3 game. One of those doubles plated two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2. Filiere also walked one.
Catcher Miguel Amaya was 2 for 3 with a walk.
AZL Cubs
