Eugene Emeralds Playoff Wrap: September 9

The Ems drop the 1st game of the NWL Championship Series.

Congratulations to Dakota Mekkes, who won the vote for the BCB Minor League Player of the Year! Mekkes won the vote with an amazing run from May 11 to July 31 when he made 22 appearances without allowing an earned run (and only one unearned run) over 37.1 innings.

Eugene Emeralds

The Eugene Emeralds lost game one of the best-of-five Northwest League Championship Series to the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays), 7-5.

Starter Keegan Thompson pitched three innings and allowed two runs on four hits. He struck out three and walked no one.

Enrique De Los Rios relieved Thompson and got into major trouble in the fifth inning, allowing four runs and taking the loss. De Los Rios pitched 1.1 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits. He struck out one and did not walk anyone.

Eugene managed to score five runs despite just three hits and only one after the third inning. The Ems scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead on a two-run single by DH Michael Cruz and a sacrifice fly by catcher Will Remillard. Cruz was 1 for 4 and Remillard was 2 for 3 with one run scored.

The two teams will play game two tonight in Eugene starting at 5:00 pm.
