Jon Lester has his start pushed back so he won’t face the Brewers

This is a good idea.

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers are a running team; they lead the National League in stolen bases. Thus it’s a good idea to have Jon Lester, who’s not good at holding runners, not pitch against them.

The Cubs were originally going to start Lester tomorrow in Tampa vs. the Rays, which would have set him up for the last game of the Milwaukee series.

Now that’s been changed:

This also sets Lester up to start the first game of the Cardinals series next Monday in St. Louis. That’s also a good idea, as Lester has an excellent record against St. Louis since he’s come to the Cubs: 12 starts, 1.98 ERA.

There’s also this tidbit:

What this implies is that John Lackey, Kyle Hendricks and Jose Quintana will probably throw the first three games of the series in Milwaukee. If Jake Arrieta is ready to go, he’d likely start the Sunday game there. If not, Montgomery could start it on normal rest.

Good times. Let’s keep them going.
