First off, congratulations to Scott Kornberg, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans broadcaster who was named co-Carolina League Broadcaster of the Year in a vote of his peers.

Three Cubs teams are still alive. Only one played.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Pelicans start their best-of-five series with the Down East Wood Ducks tomorrow night in Kinston, North Carolina. However, the forecast calls for rain all day on Wednesday.

When the Pelicans do play, Willson Contreras is scheduled to make a rehab appearance on Thursday.

Eugene Emeralds

Game one of their best-of-three series with Hillsboro was postponed because wildfires in the area made the air quality too dangerous to both the players and fans to play in. Game one is now scheduled for Wednesday night, but right now it doesn’t look like the air quality will be any better before Thursday.

AZL Cubs

The AZL Cubs beat the AZL Giants, 10-4 to take a 1 game to none lead in their best-of-three series.

Starter Alfredo Colorado pitched six innings and gave up two runs, one earned, both in the bottom of the first inning. Colorado surrendered six hits. He struck out five and did not walk anyone.

The win went to Brendan King who allowed two runs on six hits over 2.2 innings. King walked one and struck out five.

Nelson Velazquez hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning. He was 1 for 5.

Delvin Zinn went 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored. He was also hit by a pitch and he stole a base.

Cam Belago was 2 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored. Luis Hidalgo went 2 for 5 and scored once.
