2018 NLCS: Brewers vs. Dodgers Game 5, and ALCS: Red Sox vs. Astros Game 4

These series are both getting more interesting.

MLB Scheduler: I know! We’ll just reverse the Wednesday schedule from the Tuesday schedule! The Dodgers and Brewers can play a day game so we can showcase the game in Houston at night! What could possibly go wrong?

Everyone else in the world: Uh....

And so it is that the Brewers and Dodgers will have the first pitch of Game 5 this afternoon just 12 hours and 40 minutes after Manny Machado slid across the plate with the winning run in Game 4. It’s not just that the teams played five hours, 15 minutes — it’s the intensity with which they played, and the high stakes of a postseason game.

The two starting pitchers for this afternoon’s game — Wade Miley and Clayton Kershaw — were both spotted on TV in the dugout during extra innings. Normally guys like that would be sent back home (or to the team hotel) to rest, but not in a game like that. So you’d expect both teams to be exhausted this afternoon.

Which means we’re probably in for a 13-12 game. Because baseball.

Also, Gio Gonzalez, who injured his ankle Tuesday, is now out for the rest of this series and has been replaced:

Gonzalez is now ineligible for the World Series, if the Brewers get there. And not that they’d have wanted a pitcher injured, but Milwaukee now gets a fresh arm for the rest of the NLCS.

Meanwhile, the Astros hope to recover from their blowout loss Tuesday and tie up the ALCS. And did Houston cheat to steal signs?

The Boston Red Sox were warned that a man credentialed by the Houston Astros might try to steal signs or information from their dugout after the Cleveland Indians caught him taking pictures of their dugout with a cellphone camera during Game 3 of the American League Division Series, sources with knowledge of the situation told Yahoo Sports.

A photograph obtained by Yahoo Sports showed a man named Kyle McLaughlin aiming a cell phone into Cleveland’s dugout during the Indians’ 11-3 loss that ended their season. McLaughlin was the same man caught taking pictures near the Red Sox’s dugout during Game 1 of the AL Championship Series, which was first reported by the Metro Times. McLaughlin was removed by security in Cleveland and Boston, sources said.
