2018 American League Championship Series: Red Sox vs. Astros Game 5, Thursday 10/18, 7 p.m. CT

The Red Sox can win the A.L. pennant tonight.

John Glaser-USA TODAY Sports

The catch made by Andrew Benintendi on Alex Bregman’s sinking liner with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning Wednesday night, shown at the top of this post, won Game 4 for the Red Sox, and gave them a commanding lead in the series. If Benintendi misses that ball, the bases likely clear and the Astros win.

That’s how close we came to having this series tied instead of having Boston up three games to one.

But the Astros have Justin Verlander going tonight, and he generally rises to the occasion. There’s a very good chance we’ll have Game 6 in Boston Saturday.

That’s enough of a storyline without the controversy we had in Game 4.
