FanPost

The most rec'd BCB fanposts of the past ten-ish years.

Oh, hey there. Welcome to something I've been curious about and wanted to do for a while. So why just the past 10 years? Why not go only 4 years further back, if I've done this much work already? Simple answer there. There are, as of this fanpost being submitted, 14,580 fanposts on BCB. Since the start of 2009 to right now, 5,037 fanposts have been added. That means from the day fanposts were added as feature on BCB (called "diaries" when they were first added in 2005) there were 9,543 fanposts submitted before the end of 2008. There used to be several fanposts written per day. I already clicked through 200+ pages of fanposts to get this far, I'm not doing the remaining 360-or-so. Interestingly, they also used to get way more comments. Even the shortest of fanposts would usually get 40+ comments. Now, on to the posts. 20 posts in the past 10 years have gotten 20 or more recs. Only two have come in the past five years. Most of these posts fit into one of a few different categories, so let's organize them as such!

My Cubs Experience

A nice start. Who can't identify with this? We all love the Cubs.

rynomite23 - Life, The Cubs, and Hope Springs Eternal. 25 recs, March 2011. A story of a horrible circumstance turning into a road trip to spring training.

dragonsfanatic - Dome's diary - July 6th. 21 recs, July 2009. Dome's diary - Jun. 1st. 27 recs, June 2009. Kosuke Fukudome's posts on his time with the Chicago Cubs, in BCB form.

interbret - The most rec'd BCB fanposts of the past ten-ish years. 24 recs, October 2018. A collection of the most recommended BCB fanposts of the past ten-ish years.

Bigger than Baseball

In which baseball discussion is put aside for things that are more important.

D98 - Ryan Braun's Casual Relationship with the Truth. 21 recs, February 2012. Apparently BCB used to not universally loathe Ryan Braun, if the opening sentence of this fanpost is to be believed.

katie casey - Ronnie-isms. 42 recs, December 2010. In the wake of Ron Santo's passing, a place to share stories about him. The third-most rec'd fanpost in BCB history.

Stirrups - Thank you. 26 recs, April 2009. A quick thank you from a Halos Heaven commenter for BCB users' posts over there on the passing of Nick Adenhart.

From a Muslim and lifelong Cubs fan. 33 recs, February 2019. A reaction to Joe Ricketts' leaked emails revealing racist views.

Criticism

Sometimes, nothing makes you want to rec a post more than some good old tough love.

Doggie Stalker - Al was right, I was wrong about ticket sales. 21 recs, November 2010. A criticism of the Ricketts' approach, or lack thereof, to selling tickets to the Cubs Convention.

Archie - Timing of Castro Promotion to Bigs - An Arbitration Explanation. 21 recs, April 2010. Perhaps not really "criticism", but this explanation of why Castro wasn't called up early in the 2010 season to replace Theriot reads pretty familiar.

MrSportsKnowItAll - Panic move: Cubs send Zambrano to bullpen. 23 recs, April 2010. A harsh criticism of Zambrano's move to the bullpen. An absolutely correct harsh criticism. The move did not last.

Shawn Domagal-Goldman - Why the Booing Has to Stop. 21 recs, August 2009. This is a criticism of Cubs fans, and a good one.

"Drew" - On being a fan. 20 recs, June 2009. This post is credited to "VoxMediaUser17930", but the comments refer to the poster as Drew. A look into optimism, which wasn't as accepted/required back in the dark ages.

cubfan2201 - Pie traded to Baltimore. 34 recs, January 2009. A very short quip about the trade and how we got little of value in return. 390 comments. This post is tied for fifth place in recs in BCB's history, but I'm not bolding it. I refuse. It's only this high because Al requested it to be rec'd for some reason. It's nowhere near the standard of the rest of the posts shown here.

Hard-hitting Baseball Analysis

Sometimes, a post will get recs for looking closely at the sport. Here are the most recognized among them.

dtpollitt - Yo Joe: Willson Should Leadoff, Not Kyle. 24 recs, February 2017. The only fanpost on the list that was posted in the past five years.

Naveen Nallappa - A Look at Chris Volstad. 21 recs, January 2012. A post that did not age well, in both subject matter and the fact that the images have been lost.

DartmouthCubsFan - What differentiates the Cubs from the Contenders? 28 recs, May 2010. A DEEP dive into a comparison between the Cubs and contending teams, from many different angles.

CalCalender - An Open Letter to Kevin Goldstein. 30 recs, January 2010. A detailed response to an article posted on Baseball Prospectus asserting that the Cubs have one of the worst collections of awful contracts in baseball history.

Parody

Baseball needs to be fun to live, especially through rough years such as when these fanposts were written. These are some of the best on BCB. My best fanpost fits in this category.

Fukudometer - BP Cup Parade and Rally Set for Friday. 30 recs, July 2013. Remember when BP sponsored an actual, physical cup that the awful Cubs and awful White Sox would fight for? I sure don't.

SackMan - Cubs summer blockbusters, coming soon to a theater near you. 34 recs, June 2011. A ton of movie posters, photoshopped to be Cubs-related. Each complete with its own tagline. A very well-deserved tie for fifth place in number of recs.

Ryan W. Kasten - Bleed Cubbie Blue Game Threads 101. 38 recs, April 2011. A guideline to how to approach game threads. Still fairly useful to this day. The fourth most recommended fanpost.

eRIC HANNA

Eric Hanna - Cubs need to make a trade. 136 recs and counting, June 2009. The ultimate form of the fanpost. ADAM LIND. All fanposters dream of achieving this level, but it is not to be surpassed. Read the comments.

I spent way too much time compiling this list. Thanks for reading. I love you.
