BCB’s Josh Timmers has already posted two excellent previews of this year’s Winter Meetings — one Cubs-specific, the other more general — and you should read them if you haven’t already.
Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are the players everyone’s going to be watching this week, but the week could end with them both remaining free agents. So far this offseason, most of the action has been in the trade market, rather than big free-agent signings. A few minor signings — such as the return of former Cub Jesse Chavez to the Rangers — have happened, but we await bigger news.
Use this thread for Winter Meetings discussion all day Monday. I’ll post similar threads Tuesday and Wednesday, and then the Meetings end Thursday morning with the Rule 5 draft. If the Cubs make any moves, whether signings or trades, of course we’ll have separate articles here for those.
Enjoy this week of baseball discussion, and remember it’s just 75 days until the Cubs take the field at Sloan Park in Mesa to face the Brewers in their first spring training game of 2019.
