FanPost Friday: Close encounters of a baseball kind

Ever meet a player? We want to hear about it.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

There’s something especially cool about meeting a player you love. It doesn’t matter if you paid for a meet and greet at a Cubs event (that’s what Cubs Convention is all about, after all), or if you just happened to be in the right place at the right time (like the Wrigleyville Starbucks during a rookie coffee run, perhaps?). Heck, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t specifically stay at a team hotel on the road once in the hopes of bumping into someone in the lobby.

No matter if the meeting came in a local pizza joint, or was a result of waiting for signatures at the dugout, they all turn into interesting “Let me tell you about the time I met so-and-so” stories. Heck, I once met Pete Rose in Las Vegas (shocking, I know), and he talked to me about how his son played for my local minor league team once. He had the phone number for the mayor of Winnipeg in his contact list.

Whatever the circumstances, many of us have cool, awkward, hilarious, or just fascinating stories about meeting famous ballplayers. So with that in mind, we want to hear what your stories are. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Cubs player or not. Doesn’t matter if it was positive or not. Just tell use your best “I met a ballplayer!” story!
