Jose Quintana, LHP vs. Sal Romano, RHP
Jose Quintana looked like he was back on track against the Marlins, then got pounded by the Braves in his last outing. He just hasn’t had any consistency all year.
So I looked at his record last year against the Reds. That... might have been a mistake. Two starts, 4.66 ERA, 1.448 WHIP. No home runs in 9⅔ innings, I guess that’s something positive.
We know Jose Quintana is a good pitcher. He had five-plus years of that for the White Sox. I know he can get back to that. Tonight would be a good time to start that.
That’s all I got on Q.
Sal Romano has already succeeded beyond his draft position. He was the Reds’ 23rd round pick in 2011. Most guys chosen that low never make the big leagues, though there are two others from that particular round, both with the Indians, Cody Allen and Bradley Zimmer.
Anyway, Romano has made 25 major-league starts with limited success, a 4.58 ERA and 22 home runs allowed in 131⅔ innings.
He threw pretty well last August 24 against the Cubs: seven innings, one run. On the other hand, the Giants pounded him in his last outing, eight hits and six runs in 2⅓ innings.
In short, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Today’s game is on WGN.

Please visit our SB Nation Reds site Red Reporter. If you do go there to interact with Reds fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
The 2018 Game Thread procedure will be the same as the one used during 2017. Here's how it works.
You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game's StoryStream as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
