Mike Montgomery has been a revelation since he joined the rotation May 28: four starts, 1.14 ERA, 0.676. All I can say is: Keep up the good work!
Against the Dodgers, Montgomery made seven relief appearances against them in the 2016 and 2017 NLCS and trust me, you do not want to look at the results. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
In the regular season: three appearances (one start), 8⅔ total innings, 4.15 ERA. Current Dodgers, in a small sample size, are hitting .185 (5-for-27) against him with one home run (Austin Barnes).
Rich Hill is being activated from the disabled list to start this game. It’s his second DL stint of 2018, the most recent one due to blister issues, where he had to leave a start May 19 vs. the Nationals after two pitches.
Age, at last, could be catching up to Hill. His first start of the year was very good, the rest pretty bad. Just to give you an idea of how long he’s been around, some of the players who played in Hill’s MLB debut game, June 15, 2005, include Carlos Delgado, Lenny Harris, Neifi Perez, Jeromy Burnitz and Greg Maddux.
Only two current Cubs have faced Hill in regular-season games (Chris Gimenez and Ben Zobrist), though Hill handled the Cubs pretty well in the 2016 and 2017 NLCS, just one run in 11 total innings, a solo homer by Addison Russell.
Today’s game is on ABC7 Chicago.

Please visit our SB Nation Dodgers site True Blue LA. If you do go there to interact with Dodgers fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular.
The 2018 Game Thread procedure will be the same as the one used during 2017. Here’s how it works.
You’ll find the game preview posted separately on the front page, two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page. The First Pitch Thread and all the overflow threads will be published in that stream, as well as the recap. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post, and at the time I write the recap I will rename the stream “Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads” so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread, all the overflow threads and recap in the box marked “Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). They will also appear in the game’s StoryStream as noted above.
The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at one hour, two hours and 2:45 after the scheduled game time.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
