Iowa Cubs

Travel day as they come home from a disastrous 1-6 road trip to Reno and Tacoma.

Tennessee Smokies, Myrtle Beach Pelicans and South Bend Cubs

All-Star break. All three teams will be back in action on Thursday, weather permitting, of course

Eugene Emeralds

The Eugene Emeralds spoiled the home opener for the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks), 4-3.

Starter Eury Ramos made his first start of the season and allowed three runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out three and only walked one, although he did uncork three wild pitches.

The win went to Jake Steffens, who pitched the next three innings without allowing a run. Steffens gave up just two hits. He struck out five (including the side in order in the sixth inning) and didn’t walk anyone.

Dalton Geekie pitched the ninth inning and got his second save of the young season. He walked the second batter he faced. He struck out the other three.

DH Rafael Mejia went 2 for 3 with a two-run triple in the top of the second inning. He scored on a groundout by the next batter.

Left fielder Jonathan Sierra was 2 for 3 with a walk and one run scored.

Center fielder Fernando Kelli was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. However, he was 0 for 2 in stolen base attempts.

AZL Cubs

The AZL Cubs 1 game with the Angels was postponed. I have no idea why. No other Arizona game was postponed, so it wasn’t weather-related.

The AZL Cubs 2 had the night off.
