The Cubs acquired Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers late Thursday, and he has now been added to the active roster for today’s games:
Chavez here, Bass DL, Maples up, Norwood optioned, Farrell added as 26th player
— Mark Gonzales (@MDGonzales) July 21, 2018
Dillon Maples has had a couple of unsuccessful stints with the Cubs this year. Hopefully this time is better.
Luke Farrell has a 3.86 ERA and 1.357 WHIP in three different stints with the Cubs this year, covering 28 innings in 19 appearances (one start).
The 26th Man rule allows teams to add a player when a doubleheader is scheduled without a corresponding roster move. Per the rule, if the DH is scheduled more than 48 hours in advance (which this one was), the added player is considered available for both games.
The full game preview for Game 1 will post at 10:30 CT.
