Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were downed by the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 7-3.
Michael Rucker gave up a three-run home run in the first inning and things didn’t get much better from there. Rucker went three innings and allowed six runs on seven hits. He struck out one and did not walk anyone, although he did hit one batter.
Third baseman P.J. Higgins went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Second baseman Vimael Machin went 2 for 4.
The start of this game was delayed by ninety minutes because of rain.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were swept by the Winston-Salem Dash (White Sox), 6-1.
Alex Lange started and took the loss. Lange gave up five runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. Lange walked four and struck out two. He also hit two batters.
Shortstop Andruw Monasterio went 2 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. He scored the Pelicans lone run on a Tyler Alamo sac fly in the third inning.
DH Jared Young went 2 for 3 and was hit by a pitch.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were eaten by the Kane County Cougars (Diamondbacks), 8-5.
Starter Brendan King surrendered two runs on four hits over 3.2 innings. But mainly it was on that two-run home run he gave up in the fourth inning. King walked two, hit one batter and struck out four.
Left fielder Zach Davis went 3 for 5 with an RBI.
First baseman Austin Upshaw was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Second baseman Rafael Narea was 1 for 2 with a double and two walks. Narea drove home two.
Eugene Emeralds
The Eugene Emeralds torched the Tri-City Dust Devils (Padres), 9-1.
Derek Casey pitched the first two innings of this game without allowing a hit or a run. He did walk one. He did not strike out anyone.
The win went to Eury Ramos, who pitched the next four innings in a piggyback start. Ramos allowed one run on four hits and three walks. He struck out four.
The Ems banged out 13 hits tonight and everyone in the lineup got at least one.
Third baseman Luke Reynolds was 2 for 3 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Reynolds scored four times and had two RBI.
Second baseman Luis Diaz went 2 for 5 with a double and four RBI.
Catcher Gustavo Polanco 3 for 5 with one RBI.
