Cubs 2019 regular season schedule

As they did in 2016, they’ll open the season in an A.L. West park.

Perhaps it’ll work magic, as it did in 2016. That year, the Cubs opened the regular season against the Angels at Anaheim.

They’ll begin the 2019 regular season in another A.L. West ballpark, Thursday, March 28 at Globe Life Park, home of the Texas Rangers. It will be the Cubs’ first visit to Arlington, Texas for regular-season games since 2010.

Here’s the rest of the tentative 2019 Cubs schedule, as the entire MLB schedule for next season was released today. Once again, the Cubs will open the season on the road, to allow for more offseason renovation work to Wrigley Field.

The A.L. West is the division the Cubs will match up with in interleague play next year, and Mike Trout and the Angels make an early-season visit to Wrigley. (Didn’t I mention earlier this year that having interleague games in cold-weather cities in April was a bad idea?)

The Cubs will play four games against the White Sox, and instead of as in previous years having all four of those games in a single week, they’ll be split into a pair of two-game series. The Cubs also have the two-and-two interleague split with the Mariners, traveling to Seattle in late April and hosting them in early September.

Also of note: A 10-game homestand, without an off day, in early May. Hope the weather’s nice next spring. Also, the Cubs will finish 2019 on the road in Pittsburgh and St. Louis.

I will add game times to this schedule when they are available. A TV schedule for 2019 should be available by February 2019 and I’ll post that separately. Lastly, please note that this schedule is tentative and subject to change.
