FanPost Friday: How will the Cubs look in 5 years?

Picture the year 2023...

2023 is one of those dates that sounds made up. I say this as someone who refuses to acknowledge that people born in the year 2000 can vote now. 2000 was only like, eight years ago, wasn’t it? And the 90s just ended. 2023 is a date that would come at the end of a very cool sci-fi movie. Electric City: 2023. Come on, you’d watch that. Everyone would have flying cars and really space age clothes.

But no. 2023 is a mere five years away, and it’s close enough that we can make some of our own guesses about what baseball, and specifically Cubs baseball, will look like.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to watch the minor league system, perhaps you want to predict which players would be on the Opening Day roster in 2023. What does the front office look like. Is Maddon still, somehow, at the helm? It’s the future, man, who knows how anti-aging technology will have advanced?

Maybe you don’t know enough about future generations of players to predict who will be on the team. That’s fine. Instead you could take a look at the way the game is changing around us even today, with the talk of expansion teams, pitch clocks, and articles about how to “save” baseball. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago there was only a single wild card team in each league. Tell us what you think baseball will look like in five years.

Head over to the FanPost section, select “New FanPost” on the left, then dust off that crystal ball and look ahead to the future of the Cubs.
