Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward left Thursday’s game with what was described as “right hamstring tightness.”
This injury must be a bit more serious than first thought:
#Cubs place Heyward on 10-day DL with right hamstring tightness. Dillon Maples recalled from Iowa

Dillon Maples has had a lot of travel back and forth from Des Moines in the last week or so — he was recalled when Tyler Chatwood was placed on the DL August 23, then sent back down a day later when Alec Mills was recalled to start against the Reds.
This DL placement, incidentally, likely means Friday’s game against the Phillies will be played as scheduled, or at least started. Had the game been postponed, the DL move for Heyward wouldn’t have been necessary, as rosters are set to expand Saturday.
This means the Cubs will play Friday’s game with only three bench players, but will have an extra reliever available. They will have at least two more position players available Saturday:
#Cubs Maddon says they will activate Bryant and Russell on Saturday and expects KB to start Saturday

I would expect other pitchers and position players added Saturday as well. Stay tuned.
