These two teams met in St. Louis in mid-September, when some Nationals wins might have really helped the Cubs. The Cardinals took two of three. The Cardinals also took three of four from the Nats in late April/early May when Washington was off to a poor start to the season. St. Louis is the only team to defeat Max Scherzer twice this year.
I think the Nats’ pitching will eventually overwhelm the Cardinals offense, which, as we saw even while they were winning five of seven from the Cubs in September, can go hot and cold.
