Thursday afternoon, the Rawlings Sporting Goods company announced the “finalists” for their 2019 Gold Glove Awards. I put “finalists” in quotes because there isn’t any further voting taking place — these are simply the top three vote-getters in balloting already completed.
2019 wasn’t a great defensive year for the Cubs, as you know, but Anthony Rizzo is a finalist at first base for a Gold Glove this year.
Here are the three “finalists” for the N.L. Gold glove at first base:

That’s Christian Walker of the Diamondbacks, in case you are not familiar with his Twitter handle.
Here’s one of Rizzo’s best defensive plays of 2019. On May 8, he intentionally let a ball drop in order to turn a double play [VIDEO].
The Cubs eventually won that game on a walkoff home run by Jason Heyward in the 11th inning.
Heyward is a finalist for a Gold Glove in right field — even though he played more games in center field (74) than right field (63). Here are the N.L. right field finalists:

Rizzo has won two previous Gold Gloves. Heyward has five Gold Glove awards. The winners will be announced on a TV special Sunday, November 3 on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. CT.
